Trunks &Cast recently stepped a little out of our usual comfort zone of self starter events to team up with  Music for worms Production for their monthly hip hop connector Sunday sessions. The theme for this months event was Hip Hop High Tea, of course we had to jump on board with such a tittle .

The event took place at an old warehouse down town johazzardous which has since been renovated into an art gallery where the work of Artist CONRAD BO is exhibited. It was also the first time I had to run our Pop Up space alone, which had me a little nerved but very excited, Graye wasnt there however I know she would have loved to attend ,onwards and upwards is our motto ." On hand to over see the smooth running of things was Trunks & Casts trusty Brand Custodian StreetBoss, you don't even know the chuckles that where had....

If you where out at STRCRD you would have had the pleasure to see legendary graf artist Claw Money who was one the exhibitions esteemed guests, not only does she run tings on the Graf scene , Claw Money runs a successful clothing company which has a celebrity following that includes M.I.A. (artist)Kanye West and Santogold Trunks&Cast had the pleasure of being the first local outlet to exhibit items from her range at Hip HOP high Tea

Claw has been part of collaborations with major brands including Calvin KleinMark Ecko and Nike, with whom she designed two styles of Claw Money custom sneakers. This is the first of many collaborations Trunks&Cast will be spear heading with other aspirational international street wear brands>>>>keep your ear to this ground

SHE £€$¥ AID

SHE £€$¥ AID
Trunks &Cast is and has always been and always will be all about the ladies, being an all female organisation we strongly believe that more attention needs to be focused on building and arming women with information and resources needed to carry out their artistic and entrepreneural goals. There are not enough women businesses and women constantly feel overwhelmed by the Arts. There is a misconception about the potential that is out there regarding women in the creative fields.

Goals:

·      Empowering young women to venture into the creative fields they are best suited.

·      Giving the ladies a platform to introduce themselves and their craft to the necessary audience.

·      Organising network events where these young women can  associate with each other and build strong   relationships.

·      Equip woman with the know-how to turn She Power into She £€$¥

·      She £€$¥ AID serves to create a network of equipped woman, by creating a hub where every day and future Shero’s can openly share, source and test information and in turn implement the fundamental ethos of the movement.

This isn’t another charity drive but a responsibility we as Trunks&Cast feel due to our fellow woman. The possibilities behind what SHE£€$¥ will represent are limitless so don’t go counting us out of any industry. Through collaborations with Female visionaries across the depth of art and business you can expect to be seeing SHE£€$¥ items in a set up near you.

So many women inspire us, we would like to take this opportunity to salute a woman who inspired us and opened her wealth of knowledge to us when we were starting this creative project known as Trunks Cast. Bianca Miles Sibiya *we had to* put us on the SHE£€$¥ term long before she uttered the words. A visionary woman who lives by passion for Africa, fashion, youth culture, African Cinema and most importantly sister hood we call her the lieutenant of this Army.

The Gourmet Tea

Some Inspiration

This little tea shop is awesome, its designed like a box that opens up into a full on store. This store can disappear from view...and transform into a box...(We Love)
The designer Alan Chu says his inspiration comes from the 35 colourful tea tins which are sold in the gourmet shop.
Alan Chu is really good at working with small spaces and coming up with attractive innovative designs that just blow you away...he has done many projects similar to this one. Check it out for some inspiration.

Vuitton X Kusama

Yayio Kusama

The Yayio Kusama Louis Vuitton Pop up Store Design

Her Art Work

Genius
Feminist/Artist/Visionary/Poet/Muse

Yayoi Kusama (草間 彌生 or 草間 弥生 Kusama Yayoi, born March 22, 1929) is a Japanese artist and writer. Throughout her career she has worked in a wide variety of mediums, including painting, collage, sculpture, performance art and environmental installations, most of which exhibit her thematic interest in psychedelic colours, repetition and pattern. A precursor of the pop art, minimalist and feminist art movements, Kusama influenced contemporaries such as Andy Warhol and Claes Oldenburg.

Although largely forgotten after departing the New York art scene in the early 1970s, Kusama is now acknowledged as one of the most important living artists to come out of Japan, and an important voice of the avant-garde.

Kusama's work is based in conceptual art and shows some attributes of feminism, minimalism, surrealism, Art Brut, pop art, and abstract expressionism, and is infused with autobiographical, psychological, and sexual content.

Kusama is also a published novelist and poet, and has created notable work in film and fashion design. Major retrospectives of her work have been held at the Museum of Modern Art and Tate Modern, whilst in 2008 Christies New York sold a work by her for $5.1 million, a record for a living female artist.

This week Louis Vuitton unveiled dotty Yayoi Kusama collab a fashion video in honour of Japanese pop artist Yayoi Kusama. http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL41C3D338071A221F

The dance clip sees bespotted models accessorised with the polka dot bags and apparel which comprise the French luxury label's team-up with Kusama.

The brand unveiled the new team-up on Tuesday, with key items including shoes, handbags, shirts, skirts and sunglasses. This coincides with New York's Whitney Museum of American Art's latest exhibition of Kusama's work, which runs July 12 - September 30.

The collection's theme is bold, graphic polka dots displayed in an array of sizes and colours, emphasising the artist's signature style.

Louis Vuitton will roll out seven pop-up shops to mark its capsule collection with the Japanese artist.

The first shop is set to open inside the Louis Vuitton boutique in New York on July 10, two days before Kusama’s touring retrospective opens at the Whitney Museum of American Art. Next, polka dots — Kusama’s signature motif — will spring up in Asia, at Pacific Place in Hong Kong, Ngee Ann City in Singapore, and Isetan’s Shinjuku branch in Tokyo.

Following those launches, Tokyo, the city Kusama calls home, will get a second location in Dover Street Market in Ginza. Then the two largest Kusama concept stores will open at two department stores: an 860-square-feet shop in Printemps in Paris on August 23; and a 1,375-square-feet boutique in Selfridges in London on August 24. The Paris location will be centered around polka dots, while the London shop will revolve around Kusama’s famous pumpkin sculptures.

The pop-up outlets will be open for one to two months, offering a range of spotted trench coats, handbags, and other accessories created with the artist for Louis Vuitton. The European branches will also exclusively offer tentacle-festooned handbags two months ahead of their scheduled October launch date.

Yayoi Kusama is everything a creative yearns to be and some. Knowing such a divine human being exists only expires a SheMoney Movement like us to dream bigger.

A great who at the age of 83 has pop culture eating out the palm of her hand. A true inspiration to all woman and a testament of artistic brilliance.

Our Shero for the week.
